Sonic 7 For Sale from Exomotive

We’ve got an amazing deal on a completely custom Sonic 7 rolling chassis, complete with a 315hp 2.3L MazdaSpeed6 engine.

This build has been well documented on the Exomotive section of Exocars.net with over 40 pages in the build log: http://exocars.net/showthread.php?t=2197

The project was originally undertaken by Cord Bauer, who is now spending 100% of his time with the new Catfish kit car. Unfortunately, this means that his nearly done Sonic 7 has been sitting in the garage, forlorn and unappreciated. We’ll it’s time that someone take on the challenge, finishes it this winter, and take it out as a new car this spring.

The car has so many upgrades and changes, it’s almost impossible to keep track of them all. If you’re serious about buying the car, please read the whole exocars.net build thread. It goes over all the time, engineering and testing that the Sonic has been through, some of it finding its way onto the production units. All work was done at Tony Woodford’s AWR Racing shop, which housed a Renault F1 car and a 1,200hp Nissan IMSA GTP car when the Sonic first arrived. Tony’s now working on the original 260Z race car whose setup and suspension tweaks created the base for the 260ZX car. Adam Carolla is due to pick up his little trophy any day now. 🙂

If you add up the options for a U.S. Sonic now, the unassembled kit itself would cost you over $14,000, and that doesn’t include the upgraded parts on this car or the CUSTOM work done to it. Add the professional man hours, and this stopped be a “normal” kit car long ago.

What will it take to get rolling? One of two things: re-flash the ECU at a Mazda dealer and have them re-key the car (I have two dummy keys). You’ll have your hands full with an estimated 315 hp and about the same amount of torque.

OR, take out the engine and sell it for $2,500 on Ebay, drop in a 2.0 or 2.3 Ford Ecotec or Mazda 3 (same engine), and you’ll still have 150hp and supercar handling, thanks to the light weight and the upgraded suspension and brakes.

The car that took over $30k and two years to build is available for best offer over $15k. Contact us at info AT exomotive DOT com for more info.
